Frequently asked questions
SAFETY FIRST
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Before leaving the house or going to bed, make sure you have properly put out the flame.
Always burn the candle on a flat and heat resistant surface and away from drafts.
Do not place your candle where anything could fall into or over it, this includes children and pets. Do not burn anything else in the candle apart from the wick.
ABOUT YOUR CANDLE
What is it made of?
We use Rapeseed & Coconut (RCX) which is a natural wax blend. It was developed in Europe and is made from only rapeseed and coconut oil, nothing else. It is free from paraffin, soy, palm, beeswax and synthetic additives.
Should I trim the wick?
Yes! Always trim the wick to 5mm before lighting to avoid smoking and damage to the glass. You can use scissors, a candle trimmer or fingers.
How should I burn the candle for the first time?
Take your time! We know you would love to try it immediately but for the first burn make sure to allow 3-4 hours so that a large pool of melted wax can form right across the top of the candle. This means that you will maximise the fragrance released and also, very importantly, that the candle will burn all the way down. If you burn it for a shorter time it will form a smaller ring in the centre which will limit the amount of wax that will burn in the future (and your candle won't last as long).
How long should I burn the candle for each time?
Ideally 3-4 hours and a minimum of 2. It should not be burnt for more than 4 hours at a time to prevent the glass getting too hot.
Are there air bubbles in the candles and does it matter?
There shouldn't be any air bubbles in the wax but it may look as if there are. The wax is poured slowly and sometimes in different stages to ensure that there aren't any air bubbles. However there is often an optical illusion created by the uneven thickness of the bottles combined with the way the wax forms on the surface of the glass. If you look really carefully, you will be able to see this.
Is it safe to burn the candle to the bottom of the bottle?
No. When there is about 2cm (1/2 inch) of wax at the bottom of the bottle, stop. This is because the glass can get very hot, particularly at the base, at this stage and could break. This is definitely to be avoided.
If you would like to reuse your jar as a vase or a pen holder or for any other purpose or would like to recycle it, you can clean it by standing in warm water and when the wax is soft use a spoon and paper towel to wipe it clean.
How long will my candle burn for?
If you are careful and burn it for 3-4 hours each time, it should last for a minimum of 40 hours.
